The mission of the Emancipation Park Conservancy is to enhance the historic Emancipation Park by preserving its integrity and enriching its heritage as a local, state, national, and international landmark. Founded by four freed slaves, Emancipation Park has served as a beacon of hope and a center for various activities of self-help and enrichment for over a century. The Conservancy was established to create a renewed cultural, learning, and recreational gathering place in the city, prides itself in being the Center of the Community, and endeavors to continue being that unique, stabilizing influence. Unique in our history. A unique place that people can reflect on its past. A unique healing center as demonstrated during the peaceful protest held immediately following the recent social justice events. The Conservancy has implemented impactful programming and projects that drive its mission and vision that serve families, children, seniors in the Third Ward community and the city at large. These programming in the areas of education, health and wellness, and economic empowerment that are resourceful, fun, culturally relevant, and informative. Families also enjoy arts and culture opportunities during our signature annual Juneteenth activities in partnership with other 3rd Ward community organizations.
