Houston Justice targets the formerly incarcerated, homeless, and unemployed veterans through civic engagement. Our #ProjectOrange jail-based voting initiative goes behind the bars of the Harris County Jail to register eligible voters, then connects those needing housing, employment, and other resources to our programs and partners working in those arenas. Our #OffTheStreet initiative helps acquire the necessary documentation necessary for homeless and homeless-adjacent individuals to access public assistance programs, shelters, and job programs.
Grassroots (using collective action from Black community to effect change at the local, regional, or national level)
Community-based (approach allows communities to have an active role and participate in highlighting and addressing the issues that matter to them)
